Description Section of natural color bamboo with abrasions on most of the outside. Paper label glued on, "From the first airplane that came to Bloomington: Fell near house on Dunn Place." 9 1/4" x 1 1/4" diameter. See postcard 80.25.8 READ ALL ABOUT IT! Daily Telephone October 11, 1911. Horace Kearney walked away from the wreck in Dunn Meadow, and the crowd rushed to pilfer souvenirs from the wreckage. The police almost resorted to their billy clubs to quell the riot; one negro was arrested. See also Bennet Reed's Bltn Daily Herald column #98. The crash made it a great day for the skeptics who had no faith in airplanes.
