Black and white photograph of a man stepping out of a small, horse-drawn carriage that has stopped in front of a large house in a rural setting, photo measures 6.5625" x 8.6875", matte measures 10" x 12", date unknown. Image shows a sideview of a brown horse saddled and harnessed to a small wooden carriage with four large wooden wheels. A man is stepping out of a small door in the carriage; in his left hand he holds several letters. The photo captures him in the act of placing these letters into a postbox (small metal box on a wooden stand). The man is dressed in uniform (conductor's cap, long-sleeved grey button-up military-style jacket, dark pants). The horse carriage is pictured in a slightly overgrown lawn in front of a large home. There are a few trees (no leaves) scattered around the home, mostly small-medium in size. The house has a covered porch enclosed by a low railing and supported by white, wooden columns. There are two brick chimneys rising from the roof of the house. The left side of the house is marked by a hexagonal, turreted tower. There is a prominent front-facing gable on the home. This house is an example of Queen Anne architecture. Written just beneath the top edge of the back of the matte is: "A, H, Pering Rural Letter Carrier Route 7./ Taken in front of home of/ W. J. Fee, E. 10th st." in heavy pencil. |
