Description |
6.4373" x 4.625" sepia tone photograph of "Camp Seward, Aug. 1899" mounted onto a 7" x 5" off white matte board with adhesive. The photo depicts a group of 37 men mostly wearing white button down shirts and dark pants posing for the camera in front of three gleaming white tents (the tent on the far left has sides bearing vertical stripes) and underneath three American flags strung up by a long string tied between two trees. The front row of men sit in low folding chairs, while the second row either sits or stands behind them. The individuals on the left side of the photo hold brass instruments with sheet music stands placed in front of them. A bicycle is propped against a tree at the far right of the picture. On the ground in front of the men is a large pile of large to medium sized tree branches, perhaps for a fire. Leafy trees reach up to fill the top of the photo frame. Written on the reverse in blue ink "Property of James A. Barnhill / 218 N. Union St." and in black ink "Camp Seward, Aug. 1899." |
