Description |
Black and white photograph of a large brick house with white trim, 10"x8", 1975. Landscape orientation, with white border and matte finish. The photograph is somewhat of a close-up of the house, and not all of it is visible. The house is made of dark bricks, probably red, and has white trim on the windows and doors. The front door is in a small portico with columns and stone steps, and there is a small balcony over that portico, with a dark iron railing and white-trimmed glass doors. The windows on the first and second stories are multi-paned double hung, and have open shutters. The roof is primarily side-gabled, with several gabled dormers on the front slope. There is a simple cornice under the eaves on the front, and There are at least two large brick chimneys - one on each end. On the left, there is an extension - a single-storied flat-topped sunroom that is painted white and has pilasters among many windows. The top of this room is a balcony with a white-painted balustrade. There are vines growing up the wall on the left side of the building, and there are many trees and bushes in the front. Most are leafless, including one large birch tree. There are a few white dots in the image, from specks or dust on the negative. On the back, there is handwriting, and two ink stamps. In the top right corner, '528 N. Walnut St.', 'Gates Realtors', and 'Historic Buildings: B & MC - houses' are handwritten in pencil in the top right corner. To the left of that, still near the top edge, 'owner:' and 'built by Sanford Teter' are also written in pencil. 'Indiana Room' and 'Monroe County Public Library 303 East Kirkwood [and other obscured line]' are stamped on the back near the top left corner, the former in purple, the latter in black. '1979 photo' is handwritten in pencil in the bottom left corner. |
