Black and white photograph of Matthews Brothers Stone Company employees posed in front of the Matthews Brothers office building, 10" x 8", 1955-1960. The four rows of men and one woman include the following individuals: (first row left to right) Quentin Ellett, Kenneth Mobley, Walter Wampler, Phillip Wampler, Schuyler Sater, Jerry Polley, Paul Roberts and Wallace Prather; (second row) Allen Grimes, William Robertson, Russell Fulford, Charles May, Cletus Axsom, Paul Knapp, Lance Kell, Theodore Lanam, Russell Stephens, Frank Easton, Paul Taylor, Dwight Sylvester, and Deffern Wampler; (third row) Leslie Swafford, Joseph Roberts, Delbert Stogsdill, Clinton May, Noble Polley, Roger Carter, Dale Barger, Myron Howard, David Robertson, Harold Mitchell, Hugh Gorman, Paul Hughes, and William Barger; and (fourth row) Vestal Barger, Milard Hayes, Jack Kendall, Chester Young, John Crane, Fred Barrett, Howard Barrett, Rosemary Wisley, William H. McCrady, John Baugh, and Robert Carter. The men sitting and standing in the first three rows wear assorted work clothes such as overalls, heavy boots, caps, button up shirts with rolled sleeves etc. The few men and one woman standing at the very back on a step in front of the office building wear administrative work clothes such as a blouse and skirt on the woman, and white button up shirts, bow-ties, etc. on the men. The office building is made of limestone bricks. The entrance door is set at the top of a narrow staircase seen at the top, slightly left of center of the photo frame. "MATTHEWS / Brothers Stone Company / Established 1862 / Cut Stone Contractors" is stenciled on the glass door. Large uneven windows appear on either side of the doorway. The reverse is stamped "PIETZUCH STUDIO / Spencer, Indiana / Phone 829-3877". Written in blue ink "1955-1960" and "MBCO Employees".
