Black and white photograph of two women exchanging books in front of what is likely the Monroe County Public Library Bookmobile, 9.9375"x 7.9375", date unknown. On the left is a young woman, Shirley Ann Baxter wearing a heavy winter bell-shaped wool coat with two large buttons. She has mid-length dark curly hair and is holding an open book in her right hand while exchanging another book in her left hand with another woman. The woman on the right, Lois Henze, is handing the woman on the left a book titled "Zic-Zac" (possibly a children's book?). Both women are smiling. She wears a calf-length winter coat with wide lapels and a velvet skull cap. Blonde curls peek from the bottom around her neck. She is wearing leather shoes with a small heel. Behind the women is an older truck, slightly muddy, the back of which is filled with books. Three compartments hold a large amount of books. The comartments are open, with the windows enclosing them pushed up and into the truck. The truck is dark and shiny, and has lettering on the side. Visible is "BLO- -ONROE CO. LIBRARY". I think we can assume that this reads "Bloomington Monroe Co. Library". Next to the wheel between the women on the car the numbers "650-18". Lois Henze is the librarian who drove the old bookmobile. |
