Sepiatone photograph of a two-story brick house with a limestone foundation, photo measures 6.25" x 8.3125", mat measures 11" x 14.375", date unknown. Image shows a sumptuous yet tasteful two-story brick home with lots of architectural details. A woman in a rocking chair and a man are sitting on an open (roofed) porch. The man is sitting on the edge of the porch (below the woman), and there are several other chairs and benchs as well. Both are dressed in formal attire. The house is slightly covered up by a large tree whose branches and leaves hang across the top and left areas of the photo. There is a small bush visible in the bottom right corner. The house is in the Italianate style. The roof is flat. Under the edge of the roof and the porch there are elaborate embellished cornices. Above the porch there is a second-story balcony with a gingerbread and lattice baulstrade. Carved stone is visible leading up to the porch. The balcony is held up by three large, square posts. Another porch (enclosed in latticework) is visible at right. Above the windows, there are Roman arches. The windows are surrounded by heavy molding. The entire house has a balanced, symmetrical, and rectangular shape. Another house is partially visible in the background near the bottom left corner. Note from Elizabeth Schlemmer- This house is the W.T. Blair House at 320 W. Kirkwood, as identified by Derek Richey, local architectural historian, July 2012. |
